Automated Reading System

3. How ReadSpeeder works

leave a comment »

Reading has always been done in a box of text on a page, and just as the first automobiles were designed to resemble horse-drawn carriages, today’s e-readers are designed to replicate books. But ReadSpeeder takes advantage of the new electronic medium to improve on the reading experience. Comprehension is improved when meaningful phrases are presented individually, because each phrase can be understood at a glance, the same way words are read without thinking of each letter. This improvement in comprehension makes reading faster, and keeps the reader’s attention from wandering.
ReadSpeeder uses a patent pending process that converts any text into a series of short, meaningful, easy to understand phrases. These phrases will be — the natural phrases, — the meaningful pieces — of information — that sentences — are made of.

You may have seen other programs that claim to help you read faster by displaying the text, one — word — at — a — time. Some programs will let you select a number of words to show. These phrases will — be the unnatural — phrases, the un-meaningful — pieces of information — that sentences are — made of… Whew!

But showing single words reduces your comprehension, by forcing you to think of each word. And breaking a sentence into arbitrary groups of words, forces you to mentally reconstruct the sentence to figure out the meaning.

ReadSpeeder uses a new patent pending method which actually finds the meaningful pieces of information in the sentences. The meaning of these ReadSpeeder phrases can be grasped instantly, the same way you can understand words without thinking of each letter. Although earlier computer programs have tried to find phrases in text, they have required a complex method known as ‘linguistic analysis’ to try to decipher the parts of speech in order to ‘understand’ the text. But these methods are way to slow at parsing text if you want to read it right away. ReadSpeeder’s method is over 1000% faster, in fact fast enough to parse whole novels in just seconds.

The biggest difference is ReadSpeeder’s quality of phrase extraction.  Only meaningful phrases are readable at a glance.  ReadSpeeder’s method does a good job at finding these phrases and does it fast enough to use with any text.
